MTV'S Buckwild CANCELLED in wake of Shain Gandee''s Death

MTV announceed 'Buckwild' has been cancelled

MTV announced this week that hit show 'Buckwild' has been cancelled following the tragic death of star Shain Gandee. On April 1st Gandee, his uncle and friend were found dead in his 1984 Bronco after experiencing vehicle problems while four-wheeling. An autopsy revealed the trio died of carbon monoxide poisoning, most likely a result of the truck's muffler becoming submerged in mud.

"After careful consideration, MTV will not be moving forward with season two of “BUCKWILD” in West Virginia. We love the cast and the show and this was not an easy decision, but given Shain’s tragic passing and essential presence on the show, we felt it was not appropriate to continue without him. Instead, we are working on a meaningful way to pay tribute to his memory on our air and privately." the network released in the statement. MTV had began filming for season two in the weeks before Gandee's death.

"I’m relieved and happy the show is cancelled, and so is everyone around here." West Virginia mayor Danny Jones said in a statement to TMZ. "The show does nothing for us and exaggerates every negative stereotype about us." Both Jones and WV Senatore Joe Manchin have openly expressed their displeasure with the series since it's debut. Claiming it glamorizes underage drinking and shows the state in an unflattering, country-bumpkin'esque light, the lawmakers have petitioned to have filming shut down since early this year.

But not everyone was pleased to hear of the series' cancellation. "There was no explination." says 'Buckwild' producer J.P. Williams. "This is the network that has shows about teen pregnancy. They'll stick by a show that allows you to abandon a child, but a kid dies by accident doing what he does for a living [mudding] and they cancel the show?” Williams, who manages eight of the cast members plans to continue on with filming...with or without MTV. "My job is to protect these kids. This will get ugly." In a statement given to THR the veteran producer claims he plans on bringing the show to the silver screen with a Buckwild movie if the series is not renewed.

Move over "Jersey Shore"...there's a new group of wild and crazy 20-somethings hitting the airwaves! MTV's new reality show "BuckWild" premieres this December showcasing residents of Sissonville, West Virginia. As MTV heavily perpetrated the New Jersey 'Guido' stereotype to draw in viewers of the now cancelled J'Shore, they seem to be doing the same to residents of the Buckeye state. Previews promise down and dirty country fun as the cast is seen participating in traditional 'Southern' antics such as mud wrestling, fist fights and filling the cab of a truck with water to use as a makeshift swimming pool. It seems like only a matter of time before we see the WV Governor on the news complaining that the reality show is trying to cash in Honey Boo Boo money train, showing the south in a false light where everyone appears to be redneck, fightin' fools.

Shain (not Shane) "Gandee Candy"

A popular, hard working man who everyone knows. In high school he was elected prom king, but skipped the prom to work. His favorite activities include hunting, four wheeling, and playing in the mud. A true mama's boy, Shain puts his family first and only lives three doors down from his mother. (Will Shain be Buckwild's version of loyal family man Vinny?)

Anna "The Ringleader"

Though her family is fairly affluent and she lives in the "rich" part of town, don't let that fool you. Anna is a true West Virginian in every sense of the word. Anna loves to party and get dirty down at the "creek and hollers" with her whole crew.

Ashley "The Tom Boy"

Wild and crazy should be her middle name. A true wild child in every sense of the word, Ashley prefers sports and fun to heels and purses. Known for being just one of the guys, Ashley prefers sports and four wheeling to makeup and designer clothes. A devoted friend, her brutal honesty can put some on the edge. Will Ashley be BW's version of the outspoken J-Woww?

Shae "The Spicy Southern Bell"

Don't let her pretty face and flowing blonde hair fool you, this girl can get down! As West Virginia's most eligible bachelorette, Shae is never without her fair share of male suitors and proves that nice guys finish last: She prefers to date the baddest of bad boys. Currently in nursing school, Shae is a perfect combination of brains and beauty.

Joey "Justin Beaver"

With his devilish grin and Justin Beiber's haircut, Joey joins the cast as Shain's best friend. An adrenaline junkie, he has had his fair share of hospital stays for his wild antics and injuries. Joey considers himself the biggest ladies man in West Virginia. Will Joey be BW's fill in the abs...err..shoes...of Mike 'The Situation' with his cocky attitude and lady-loving ways?

Cara "The Fire Cracker"

Hailing from Morgantown, WV (the biggest college town in the state), Cara moved to Sissonville to start her life fresh without living in the shadows of her ex boyfriend. No stranger to the bar or club scene, the fiery red head is ready to get away from the hard partying drama and start a new chapter in her book of life.

Being a pretty boy in West Virginia goes together like peanut butter and gasoline (read: not at ALL!). Recently taken under the wing of Shain and Joey, they are anxious to rid him of his image and turn him into a real country man. Known as a total heartbreaker, Tyler has an amour of girl swooning over his handsome good looks. Trying to figure out what he wants in life, Tyler is tempted to leave college and work for his dad's company. Will he take the easy road out, or somehow find motivation to continue in school?

Katie "The College Girl"

A motivated, pretty southern gal, Katie is currently a hardworking college student who loves spending her free time away from school with her Sissonville crew. But something makes her very different from the rest of her friends- she's a bit of a scardy cat! Taking the "better safe than sorry" route, Katie's friend love to try to push her buttons...and limits...and get her to participate in their crazy antics!

After finishing college, Salwa is back home and living with her uptight parents. Ready to break free from the chains, Salwa sneaks away to party any chance she can get. This stunner is the oldest of the group, but that doesn't make her the wisest!

Will BuckWild be Worth Watching?

That is the million dollar question With "Jersey Shore" over and done with, MTV has big shoes to fill. They are looking for something to keep the ratings up. Wild and crazy sells, so my guess is that Buckwild may be just as insane, if not more, than JS.

Is BuckWild Scripted and Fake?

Observant JS watchers noticed and publicly released proof that many scenes from Jersey Shore were set up and fake. MTV responded, and couldn't deny the claims with such obvious proof. They stated that some scenes were re-enacted because the camera crew was unable to get the shot when it first occurred. There is very little real in reality shows anymore. Though cast members may not have a script to read from or lines to memorize, many times producers will come up with scenes and situations to put the cast mates in who will improvise. Will this be the case with Buckwild? Or is it 100% real? Keep your eyes open. Look for little details in the shots (ie: if a scene is staged or re-shot, you may notice a cast member wearing a different pair of shoes from one second to another, etc).
